Fear is a tricky demon. It can be paralyzing in your work as an artist or in the pursuit of your dreams. Let me tell you a secret: WE ALL HAVE FEARS! Fear is a common thread that connects us all as people. If you're scared, you're probably heading in the right direction.
Ironically, I love channeling my fear into horror movies. There's something special about sharing the feeling of fear with a group of strangers, in a dark theatre, who are all invested in a scary story.
My exploration of fear and my passion for horror movies led me to the Popcorn Frights Film Festival! Initially, I thought it would just be a week of frightful movie marathons, but what I discovered as an actress was so much more valuable.
Exploring my passion for horror led me to a festival where I grew as an artist because I had the opportunity to see the work of different artists and pick their brains.
Follow your passion and keep this in mind:
1) Go out and see work! Whether it's film, theatre, performance art, or anything in-between. Exposing yourself to art and other artists makes you a better and more well-rounded artist.
2) It's important to seek out those who think differently from you. Pick their brains and find out how they think and create work.
Find your interests and pursue them! You'll have fun exploring and they'll lead you to something meant for you. Don't ever let fear stop you, use it to propel you forward towards your dreams.
